Black and White Image

Turn document photos grey or hard black and white.

Colour

Converting to grayscale removes the colour and keeps the light and shade. It makes a photographed document read as a clean scan, it shrinks the file, and it is what some forms and print shops ask for outright.

How to use it

  1. Choose the photo you want in black and white.
  2. Let the colour be removed.
  3. Save the grayscale copy.

Common questions

Does it make the file smaller?

Usually yes, since there is less information to store once the colour is gone. A photographed document often shrinks noticeably.

Can I get the colour back?

Not from the grayscale copy — the colour information is gone. Your original file is untouched, so keep it if you may need the colour later.

Is this good for scanned documents?

It is one of the best uses. Grey text on white paper reads cleanly and prints predictably, without the colour cast a phone camera adds.
